Head Start eligibility is granted based on availability if your family meets any of the following categories:
Head Start is a preschool and child development program for children 3-5 years of age. We strive to do our very best to support children’s kindergarten readiness. We provide children with experiences and opportunities that guide their learning and expand their thinking creating life-long learners by instilling a love of learning in our children. RPMC provides Head Start services in Archer, Baylor, Cottle, Foard, Hardeman, Knox, Wilbarger, and Young Counties.
Early Head Start is a family and child development program for children from birth to age 3 that provides family-centered services for low-income families. Your child will grow and learn alongside their peers in a small group setting with no more than 4 children assigned to one teacher in a classroom of at least two teachers. RPMC provides Early Head Start services in Archer, Cottle, Foard, Hardeman, Wilbarger, and Young Counties.
There is NO COST for families participating in our programs; however, families must meet income requirements to participate.
Head Start Program serves children three to five years of age.
Early Head Start Program serves children six weeks to 36 months.
To complete your application, you will need to complete an intake interview with a staff member. Following the interview, the staff member will request the following information:

A mental health professional assists staff and families by providing regular consultations and information on effective behavioral strategies to implement in the classroom and at home.
Head Start understands that each child is an individual. Our teachers and curriculum support each child’s individual abilities and learning styles. Head Start creates inviting classroom environments that support children’s learning. The materials and equipment in our classrooms are appropriate for young children and are designed to encourage exploration, creativity, problem-solving skills, and social engagement. We believe that children’s play is children’s work!
Staff works closely with parents to meet a child’s medical needs. The program promotes children’s oral health by teaching staff daily dental activities, ensuring children brush their teeth, and distributing information to the parents. Developmental screenings and referrals to treatment and wellness check-ups are provided.

With your child’s enrollment in Head Start/Early Head Start, YOU have many opportunities! Research shows that children do better in school when their parents/guardians are involved. Parents are encouraged to volunteer and participate in numerous activities.
Policy Council comprises Head Start (HS) parents, Early Head Start (EHS) parents, and community representatives. Parents of currently enrolled children are elected annually by the peers of their specific center. As a member of the Policy Council, you represent your Head Start center, the Early Head Start program, and/or the community. At meetings, you can make suggestions and offer ideas for the program. Contribute to the annual self-assessment, personnel policies and procedures, and long and short-term planning goals and objectives.
Volunteers enhance the quality of our program and provide priceless service to the community. Opportunities may include working closely with the teacher in the classroom and helping our young learners to build skills and confidence or assisting with parent activities and trainings! Please get in touch with the center in our area for more information on ways to actively engage with your child and our learning programs.
